  Teng Yi FANG TU Plastician

In the Ancestors path

Using natural colours and daily life subjects, the language of the artist is made of soft and carnal patterns, evolving in a sensuous universe until it rises up to contemplation.

At the School of Beaux-Arts de Paris, Fang Tu is using her painting technique on transparent support. Her mastering of drawing and her liberty of picturing are reminding us painters like Degas , Toulouse-Lautrec or Rubens and even closer to us, Lucian Freud. Arrived in the old Europe, in Paris , the Chinese artist has come to study art beyond the ancestral oriental tradition.

Her work called «  Continents drift   » settles a family of 3 people, sprayed on a sofa, in a composed loneliness. Though they are all together on the same sofa, they seem isolated:the father is asleep with pyjamas and glasses on, the mother looks in the mirror at her face getting older, and the child is holding his head into his hands, in a deep silence. Painted on three slides composing the work, this ingenuity gives depth to the scene.

Fang Tu  has created a more intimate universe with women at shower also painted on slides of plexiglas. The steam is coming up through different places and creates a fine veil, which is underlining the grace of the painting «  Oh! Girls into the cloakroom ».

Family is occupying an important place in the Chinese lifestyle, and that is the subject of «  From the 60's to the 90's  ». This skilful « recto-verso » work tells the evolution of Chinese habits and the policy of the sole child. On a one side, 4 children and their parents in the 60's, and on the other side, in the 90's, appear the sole child, the parents and .many dolls around.

The right look of the young artist, who can catch the important moments, is mature. She is also able to present differently group portraits : on a large transparent surface. The one set up on Lyon City hall place, has the wedding on the first side, and a funeral on the back:two scenes of a same life ,so close and so contrary.

Fang Tu is allowing us to catch the emotion inside the events and their vital force, here only matters what is essential, and Fang Tu brings the essence of life.
